I just got a letter in the mail today (november 3) from Allstate that my homeowners policy will not be renewed this following year. I was livid – I have been a great paying customer each and every year for 8 years. I also have never once filed a claim. That would make me a great customer in most insurance companies eyes – yet, Allstate wants to drop me.
I saw the number at the bottom of the sheet of paper, 1(800)ALLSTATE, and called it. First I got someone from India and had to be rerouted to North Carolina. This took approximately 16 minutes to get to a customer service rep in North Carolina. I told them about the letter I had received and they had very little they could tell me.
The notice wasn’t even posted to my account. The lady I talked to said your home owners insurance can be dropped for virtually any reason – from a bad outside inspection (apparently your insurance company can do a drive by and not like your house for any of a million reasons), to a high number of insurance claims in your area.
That was all she could tell me. She said I would probably get a follow up letter that would be more explaining on why I was being cut from Allstate. I had to let it go at that and then I did a little research on the internet and found this post from a local ABC news station that filled me in on what was really going on.
Since July of this year and maybe even earlier Allstate has known that they were going to drop 40,000 customers solely because they aren’t having their automobiles insured by Allstate Insurance Company. Can you believe this crap – this is corrupt BS at best. They are trying to strongarm people into buying insurance they don’t want or need and if you don’t then you are being set free.
This is happening even if you are an outstanding customer like me that never called to file a claim or anything. It says that the NC Department of Insurance looked into this matter and even though it sounds wrong as long as they give at least 30 days notice it is legal. In my book it is wrong and it just goes to show you that you are no longer in good hands with Allstate.
Remember the commercial and if you call the Allstate company at their customer service number 1(800)ALLSTATE you will hear everyone you speak to tell you how you are in great hands. What BS. They even dump great paying customers all in their own self interest. It’s all about corporate greed here.
If this is happening to you I suggest you contact their CEO Jim Wilson at:
Allstate Corporate office
2775 Sanders Road
Northbrook, IL 60062
Be sure and write or call the CEO and give him a piece of your mind and tell him that you thought you were in good hands at Allstate. Now these hands are just looking out for corporate greed. Maybe we need to occupy Northbrook Illinois just like Oakland and NYC. These corporate fat cats are idiots.
If I were you leave Allstate and go elsewhere fast. They are not out for your best interests at all. What they are doing is getting a good core of people with all their insurance (home, auto, boat, life, etc…) at Allstate so they cannot leave very easily and then they are going to increase rates – be on the watch for this increase shortly.
See, if you only have one very transparent policy (home in my case) with Allstate they know you can easily leave when they increase rates. So, we single policy holders are holding them back from this. They have taken the past year to try their best to get as many customers shoehorned into multiple policy coverage. Then next year they will screw their “more stuck” customers royally with increasing rates. Their customers having multiple coverages will not see the increases as much as they will be spread across their policies and they will be less likely to leave as they have all their other policies there.
If I were you I would stay far away from Allstate – the BAD HANDS PEOPLE! You are no longer in good hands there at the very unethical Allstate Insurance Company.
