I don’t know why, but lately I have been getting a lot of repeated calls from 317-472-8016. It shows on my caller ID as “Childhood Leuke”. I looked them up online and found out they are a sham charity. Go look them up yourself on Charity Navigator. They pass almost none of the money raised on to those it claims to help.
Most of the money raised goes into the owner or founders pockets. The rest goes into paying for their expensive telemarketing to raise money. A very bad investment for anyone’s monies no matter how you look at it. I have picked up their phone calls a few times to just try and tell them not to call here anymore and to put me on their do not call list.
Most of the time I hear nothing or get hung up on. One time I got connected with a telemarketer and I specifically told them to remove my information from all their lists and to stop calling me. They are still calling me 1 month later. This is ridiculous harassment.
There are far better charities out there that actually provide a large portion of donated dollars to help those in need. There is no way I am going to give one cent to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation that does little if anything for children with leukemia and their families.
It is sad that in these times someone has to resort to creating and running a sham or fraud charity to earn a living. Barbara Reid, the owner of Childhood Leukemia Foundation, needs to be honest for once in her life and stop ripping people off through her fake charity. She needs to get a real job like everyone else.
If I can say one thing it would be to avoid Childhood Leukemia Foundation and do not give them 1 cent. A much better charity that gives a far higher percentage of funds to those that need it with leukemia is the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. With the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society 75 cents or 3/4 of every dollar donated goes to help those in need. Whereas with the Childhood Leukemia Foundation sham charity at most 48% does (and I bet an audit would prove that number way too high).
I will be reporting the Childhood Leukemia Foundation to their state attorney generals office for review as a sham or fraudulent charity. Maybe after an investigation they will hopefully shut them down?
An even better charity alternative is the Skin Cancer Foundation which gives 86% of all monies donated to those in need (one of the highest percentages you will find out there and a definite marker for a very effective charity). Be sure and look up charities before donating to make sure your had earned dollars really in fact do go to those in need.
And again, avoid the Childhood Leukemia Foundation sham charity. Don’t put anymore money in Barbara Reid’s greedy pockets.
